Guided Glowworm Walk

As darkness deepens, your guide will lead you on a bushwalk to the gully where glowworms make their home. In the stillness of the night, you’ll notice the subtle glimmer of their bioluminescent light along the damp rock walls — a quiet, almost ethereal sight that captures the simple magic of nature after dark.

After spending time in the glowworm gully, stroll back under the stars to the retreat whilst keeping your eyes and ears open to spot nocturnal wildlife.

A slow sensory experience

This is more than just a workshop; it is an invitation to slow down and reconnect with the origins of chocolate.

We begin by sharing stories and memories of chocolate, creating a warm, welcoming space. From there, you will be guided through the fascinating journey of cacao, exploring its history, cultural significance, and transformation into chocolate.

You will discover:
The origins and history of cacao
Different cacao varieties and their unique flavour profiles
How cacao is grown, harvested, fermented, and dried
The ecological and cultural importance of cacao

From bean to bar: hands-on crafting

You will experience roasting cacao beans over fire while learning how flavour develops; cracking and winnowing to separate shells from cacao nibs; grinding and refining to unlock rich chocolate textures; tempering chocolate to achieve a glossy finish and perfect snap; and finally, pouring and decorating your own chocolate bar using natural ingredients such as seasonal dried flowers, fruit and nuts.

You will gain a deeper appreciation for the craftsmanship behind every bar, and the science that makes chocolate so special.

Step into ancient bushland on a guided 2.5-hour walk on the cusp of the Wollemi National Park. Discover dramatic ironstone rock formations, spot native flora and fauna, and uncover the deep-time story behind this remarkable landscape.

Walk back in time on this guided 2.5-hour bush experience on private land on the cusp of the Wollemi National Park.

Beginning at Wollemi Ridge Retreats, you’ll journey through pristine sandstone bushland, keeping an eye out for native flora and fauna while learning how this ancient landscape was formed. As the terrain gradually changes beneath your feet, your guide will share the story of vast river systems, shifting earth and the slow power of erosion that shaped the Blue Mountains plateau over millions of years.

The walk culminates at a striking ironstone rock formation. A dramatic, wave-like sandstone surface sculpted by water, iron and time. It’s a rare and powerful reminder of the forces that shaped this country long before human history began.
